Azienda Agricola Cesconi
organic wines on the hills of Pressano
Winery
In the archives of the town of Pressano, the surname Cesconi appears for the first time in 1751. Since then the roots of our family have grown, together with the vineyards, on these hills.
Some documents attest to the purchase of the Olivar vineyard at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The Nosiola that grows there, thanks to the initiative of our great-grandfather Bernardino, reached Innsbruck transported on wagons pulled by oxen. Later on our grandfather Rinaldo, with the help of his son Paolo, began to supply several taverns in the nearby city of Trento with his wines. In the following years Paolo managed with great commitment, to increase the vineyard surface and finally, with the support of his sons Alessandro, Franco, Roberto and Lorenzo, the modern history of our winery begins.
Our years of experience in the vineyards led to the decision to eliminate the use of all synthetic chemicals. We set in place the conversion to organic farming for all of our vineyards and recently we started using the principles of biodynamics. The deep knowledge of our territory and the daily attention for our vineyards allows us to harvest healthy grapes, thus limiting as much as possible the intervention on the wine in the cellar.
The production of wine is accompanied by a limited production of intense and pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil, coming from centuries-old olive trees in the Valle dei Laghi, just north of Lake Garda.

Vineyard
Our vineyards are divided between the hills of Pressano and the Valle dei Laghi, north of Lake Garda: very different areas from a climatic, geological, morphological point of view.
Hills of Pressano
Our winery is located on the hillside of the village of Pressano. All around, in a single block, a 6 hectare vineyard surrounds the winery with an altitude ranging from 300 to 500 meters. Here the vines have their roots in a soil that originated 260 million years ago, in the lower Triassic period, commonly called the Werfen formation. These sedimentary soils are composed of a succession of layers and have the advantage of being very deep, fertile and characterized by a remarkable richness in minerals. The climate is continental, with strong temperature variations between day and night. Common characteristics of the wines that come from this area are the structure, marked and defined, an intense flavor, a long finish and a great longevity.
White varieties: Nosiola, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.
Red varieties: Lagrein.
Valle dei Laghi
The valley is partly crossed by the Sarca river which originates on the Adamello Brenta glaciers and in just 78km it enters Lake Garda. Together with the glaciers that covered the whole Trentino region, it contributed to shaping this area, which today has a Mediterranean climate. The soil has a morainic origin with a rich content of silt and clay.
Ora del Garda – the wind coming from the lake – is a breeze that blows on time, mitigating temperatures and temperature range and thus contributing to creating an ideal environment for the olive tree and other Mediterranean species.
The Prabi vineyard where we cultivate Manzoni bianco is characterized by a subsoil with a high proportion of sand of alluvial origin.
In the Pivier vineyard where our Merlot and Cabernet Franc grow, the soil is rich in clay and silt.
